“Why did they do that to Molly? That was cruel!”
  (Sherlock meta by rosamundi)

I just realized why a certain number of people didn’t know what was the point of the whole exchange with Molly. For them, it is so strange why Molly is getting taunted again and again for harboring feelings for Sherlock. In their minds, it’s unnecessary because they’ve always just seen Molly as that weird girl in the morgue that has a crush on Sherlock. Why even belabor the point?

The rest of us (who have been paying attention), know that this is a difficult scene for both characters. So many things unsaid, So many complicated little emotions, just as Eurus taunted. We know that all the scenes between Sherlock and Molly, no matter how short, are so important and full of impact. This is the climax, and a beautifully made one at that.

Take a minute to describe the Sherlolly relationship for me, guys. Pretty sure we will describe them as complicated, bittersweet, hopeful. To certain people, it is lol idk, Molly likes Sherlock but Sherlock always dismisses her. The latter interpretation totally misses the depth of their relationship. Whether they deliberately skipped this or not, we wouldn’t know. But the bottom line is, they found this scene confusing and cruel, while we found it intense and bittersweet.

For us, this is trial by fire. It was absolutely necessary for these characters to address their relationship. Eurus threatening Molly validated the latter’s importance. The forced admission of both characters was damning but now it’s out in the open, finally. Both Sherlock and Molly are broken and vulnerable in this scene. To see them bare their souls to each other was so crucial for their relationship. Especially if this, indeed, is the last episode we are gonna get.

The other people, however, wonder why that scene is even there in the first place. It really isn’t as intense as shooting either Mycroft or John point blank. Not as dramatic as John chained to a well, not as palpable when the governor blew his brains out, not even as interesting as the girl on the plane. So they shook their head and wondered, what is the point of that?

The problem, therefore, was that from the very beginning, these people have never regarded Molly as an important character. Ever. So really, how could they understand the depth of this scene? To them it was just an emotional torture. To us, it was the peak, the culmination of these two characters’ relationship.

So hey, numbskulls. I get it now. I get why you’re so confused. Your pity isn’t fake. That said, don’t be sad for us. We’re fine. I guess we *really* haven’t been watching the same show after all.
