One Last Little Pre-S4 Molly Meta
 (Sherlock meta by theleftpill)

[...] So I was thinking this morning about TAB, and how it’s all about *women*, both their importance in the world and Sherlock’s (raging hard-on) High Regard and Esteem for them, and thinking about the various metas written about why Sherlock initially sees Molly as a man. A lot has been said about her needing to be in disguise to hold her position in the Victorian era, about whether Sherlock knew or didn’t know that she was a woman, but one idea I haven’t seen:

Molly’s reveal in the church reveals her to Sherlock (and to the aware audience) that she’s a woman. This happens in Sherlock’s Mind Palace. They share a tender moment of recognition. This is the moment when Molly changes for Victorian Sherlock from a trusted and equal colleague, a professional in a professional capacity, to a real human being, to a woman, to a personal connection.

This is the moment in Sherlock’s brain when Molly shifts. Ever so slightly, if you weren’t paying attention you would miss it, but Molly changes for Sherlock here. She’s no longer just the pathologist, she’s no longer a trusted and dear friend. She’s now a woman.

Series 4 has answers. Let’s see where it goes.
