Molly has always seen Sherlock
 (Sherlock meta by mae-jones)

I just thought about the opening scene with Molly in the very first episode of Sherlock. We hold this up as evidence Molly is different and Sherlock is her kink, but I think looking back now, that scene said a lot more about Molly than it ever intended.

It showed Molly was attracted to Sherlock but not in the way everyone panned.

Molly wasn’t attracted to the posh boy in the fancy clothes; the cool facade he presented to the world. She was never attracted to the shallow surface reading everyone would like to foist upon her. She wasn’t a stuttering fool because he was unattainable and worldy.

Molly was attracted to the disheveled, sweaty mess taking out his internal struggles on a corpse. Molly was attracted to the man and his emotions bubbling beneath the surface. She saw him, the real him, long before anyone had an inkling of anything more. She saw his passion and wanted a piece of it.

Molly has never gotten enough credit. She was perfectly calm whenever she interacted with the ‘real’ Sherlock but was only ever insecure when he was repressing himself or acting the dick.

Remember how confused she seemed when she said, “You always say such terrible things.” Looking back at it now, she seems as if she doesn’t get it. Why does he do that? Why does he do it when it’s not really him? These appear to be the questions in her eyes.

That was the reason she could love him after all this time with all the changes he went through and all the drug use, because she always loved the authentic Sherlock Holmes exactly as he needed to be loved. That’s why he trusted her. That’s why she mattered most. That’s why he realized he loved her in return.
